CLAS and the United Nations Association in Canada, Vancouver Branch will be hosting an International Human Rights Day Event celebrating the 67th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Come to JJ’s Restaurant at Vancouver Community College on Thursday, December 10th from 5:30 – 8:00 pm (3rd Floor, 250 W Pender).

CLAS would like to invite you to this longstanding celebratory human rights social event that we have adopted from the BC Human Rights Coalition. Admission is by donation and there will be hors d’oevres prepared by the VCC student chefs (the food has always been spectacular), a no-host bar, and live jazz music.

At 6:15 presentations begin and we will be honouring the more recent as well as past exemplary work of the BC Civil Liberties Association by awarding them the Renate Shearer Award, named after an incredible woman who fought for human rights in B.C. and organized one of the largest demonstrations in the province’s history. This is the 27th anniversary of the bestowing of this award and the list of former recipients is impressive (including our very own Frances Kelly).

Please also spread the word to any others who may have an interest in this event. Seating is limited to 80 but we don’t anticipate this being a problem. That being said, always best to show up early to make sure you get a good seat!

Looking forward to celebrating with you all in honour of all of the human rights work and achievements made to date and still yet to accomplish in B.C.
