It is with great pleasure that the Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS) announces that Jacqui Mendes will be the new Executive Director of CLAS, commencing January 6, 2020. Jacqui will join CLAS with over 25 years of organizational leadership experience in both the non-profit and private sectors, most recently at BC Notaries Association and the BC Non-Profit Housing Association.

Internally, Jacqui brings with her an impressive range of experience in directing and managing multi-departmental organizations in strategic planning and implementation, human resources management of up to 60 staff, and overseeing internal operations, financial administration and information technology.

Externally, Jacqui has significant experience in developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships, spearheading revenue generation initiatives, building effective communication and advocacy strategies and engaging in effective policy development, government relations, education, community outreach and media relations.

Jacqui describes her aspiration as “contributing to an organization which has a significant impact on community and individual well-being that serves the vulnerable and marginalized. CLAS embodies those values through its work towards positive social change by providing legal assistance and advancing the law to address the critical needs of those who are disadvantaged or face discrimination”.

Jacqui is keenly anticipating joining us here at CLAS and leading us into the next important phase of our history!
